Grade II* Listed Palladian Villa, Berkshire – Masonry Condition Survey

We undertook an external masonry condition survey of this breath-taking Grade II* listed Palladian Villa in Berkshire. The building, dating from the mid-eighteenth century is suffering from corrosion of wrought iron ‘dog cramps’ which can expand up to ten times their original size and blow apart the surrounding masonry.

This is a common defect in buildings of this period and generally requires the removal of the cramps and replacement with 316 stainless steel followed by stone indent repairs, if the loose shards cannot be salvaged and re-fixed.
