Grade II Listed Farmhouse, Abingdon, Oxfordshire – Level 3 Condition Survey
We were commissioned to undertake a Level 3 pre-acquisition condition survey of this fantastic timber framed building of early medieval origin.
Level 3 is our highest level of survey and includes a comprehensive inspection of the fabric and a specialist inspection of the building services including, importantly, a CCTV drainage survey of the subterranean drains.
This building was especially interesting with the earliest phase of development being some 800 years old. We were delighted during our inspection of the roof space to find smoke blackened timbers, which date back to when the building was a single storey open hall with a central hearth and a small opening in the roof covering, meaning that heavy smoke constantly gathered around the roof timbers over several centuries.
